The Best Coffee

Do you like cream in your coffee? Well, I DO! I became an occasional coffee drinker in my 30s.  When I have coffee, I LOVE to add cream. I like the sweetness that it brings to such a strong drink.

NOW… My 1st blog post is NOT about how much I like cream in my coffee…Well, kind of… I want to let you in on a secret (or maybe it’s not a secret to some of you).  The cream that I am referring to….is MY boo boo! (my pet name for my boyfriend—I don’t even know why I started calling him that…LOL) YEP, I am in love with a White man and he is the cream in my coffee!

First thing first…I LOVE #BlackLove!!! I had always pictured myself dating and marrying a Black guy. To be honest, I am still attracted to Black men. I love and value them. I love watching Black romantic comedies, watching the Black Love documentary on the OWN channel, and following Black Love pages on Instagram. Even though I LOVE Black Love, I honestly believe that God had other plans for me….and he sent me someone that wanted to intentionally date me, have open communication, and treasure my heart...and it all started with 21 Days of Prayer.

During 21 Days of Prayer, my church dedicates 21 days to praying and fasting. We faithfully seek God and focus on the plans he has for our lives and others. It begins at the beginning of the new year and it always gives me hope for new beginnings and blessings.  (sidenote: If you’re interested in participating or receiving more information about 21 Days of Prayer you can visit, https://21days.churchofthe highlands.com/

WELL…during 21 Days of Prayer (January 2019) I was just emotionally drained from the dating scene and those horrible SITUATIONSHIPS (you know the relationship- when you and an individual are vibing, but there’s not any commitment…SMH…yeah those relationships) Yeah, CHILE…I have had my fair share of those and I was DONE! (At that time, I didn’t realize God was protecting me from things I couldn’t see) I even told God I was DONE!  I was totally focused on getting closer to God and keeping my faith intact. During the 2nd week of 21 Days of Prayer, one of my favorite aunts (shhh…don’t tell the other 7 aunts…yeah my maternal grandmother had 10 children!) ANYWHO…she called me before one of my workouts and immediately said, “Hey Kim, don’t get mad.” (I immediately knew she was trying to hook me up with somebody…and my eyes were rolling) She went on to tell me that there was an engineer from her job that was interested in me. She told me that she showed him a picture of me and he found me to be attractive. He also answered all of her questions with ‘flying colors’…”Do you like dogs?”, “Do you want kids?”, “Do you like watching football?'“, and of course…”Do you want to get married?” LOL. She proceeded to tell me the rest of their conversation…AND then she said, “But, Kim he is White.” I was speechless…until I forced myself to say, “OKAYYY….give me his number and send me a pic.”  How could I say NO to my favorite Aunt?...and she mentioned that she felt like this was a GOD ‘thing’...

I waited 2 days before I called...I didn’t want to seem desperate, RIGHT! LOL. Our 1st conversation was filled with a combination of nervousness, excitement, and interest. We found out that we had SO many things in common, BUT we also had A LOT of differences. We both are picky eaters, enjoy the beach, like dogs, (although…he’s an animal lover; I just love my yorkie…LOL), spending time with family, watching college football, talking about politics and current news, playing card games, and giving back to the community. I’m interested in home decor, fashion, old school R&B/ hip hop, romantic comedies, some of the Housewives reality shows, Alabama football, and LeBron James. He is interested in gaming, heavy metal, reggae, computers, Auburn football (he’s an Auburn graduate), anything sci-fi and slapstick humor. (YEAH, he’s a total geek, but that’s my type…LOL). The sweetness that he brings to our relationship is quite nice and soothing.

AND...Ladies and Gents, that’s how I started having “cream” in my coffee….AND it has been the best coffee! God knows our frustration and pain, and just when we think all hope is gone, he gives us EXACTLY what we need.

~”And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.” (1 Peter 5:10)

Stay tuned...I will share more about some of the ups and downs we have experienced being in an interracial relationship.
